Yes, unfortunately many insurance plans require you to meet your deductible before covering items like prostheses and specialty bras. With high-deductible plans ($1,000 or more), this means paying significant out-of-pocket costs first. This can be really frustrating and financially challenging for many breast cancer Show Full Answer
Yes, I have found some good prices on things through HPFY (Health Products for You). It is worth getting the professional fitting from someone that understands prosthetics, mastectomy products, etc. Then you have the correct sizing- and can order anywhere. I had done bras through my insurance company, but it was just as cheap to buy it through HPFY during a sale. What the professionals charged the insurance company was about twice what the bra was on HPFY, so once the deductible came out, it was all the same. And the insurance company only covered one bra a year. SMH!

Bra Shop did not let me go empty handed though :). I was gifted a couple new bras w/ breast prosthesis thru a non profit organization called NWLB (no woman left behind).
Shout out to NWLB, I can now, Not worry about making breasts by folding socks in the sports bra no longer.
A new phase of my journey as far as outter body image
