I found that doing the exercises that they provided for range of motion at least 2x per day helped me. Not doing them caused me to tighten up during the healing process.

Use a U-shaped pillow (a neck pillow or small folded towel will work too), under your arm to reduce the amount of pressure from your arm against the lymph node dissection site- it really helps. Tylenol and an ice pack on and off, were my go-to's!
Just keep an eye out for any signs of infection, it should be getting less painful as time passes. I hope you feel better soon! Gentle hugs!

It's completely understandable to be concerned about underarm pain two weeks after a sentinel node biopsy. Some discomfort in this area is common during recovery, but it's important to know what's normal and what might need attention.
Common side effects after this type of surgery can include:
- Soreness and numbness at the incision site
- Swelling or fluid buildup
- Limited arm and shoulder movement
- Tight bands of scar tissue (called "cording") that can feel painful and restrict movement Cording (also called axillary web syndrome) is worth mentioning specifically — it can develop after lymph node surgery and feels like tight, rope-like bands under the skin. It can be painful and limit your range of motion, but it is treatable with physical therapy and stretching. It's really important to contact your healthcare provider about the pain, especially if you notice any of the following:
- Fever
- Redness or a rash
- Significant swelling in your arm
- Pain that is getting worse rather than better
Two weeks out is still early in recovery, but your care team should always know if something doesn't feel right. Don't hesitate to reach out to them!
