I asked my pcp, and oncologist about cryotherapy and they both said I could try it but it's hard to get through insurance and not inexpensive. I was prescribed gabapentin and used ice packs. Worked wonders.

Amazon sells mittens and socks with inserts that you freeze ahead of time. You would wear them while the Taxane (Taxol or Taxotere) is infusing, and probably 15 minutes before and after. I am glad that iced!

Does cryotherapy help prevent chemotherapy-induced neuropathy?

The search results provided don't contain specific information about cryotherapy (cold therapy) for preventing chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). However, they do mention scalp cooling/cold capping as a method to reduce hair loss during chemotherapy.

For managing nerve pain and neuropathy from chemotherapy, the available information suggests several approaches:

Medical treatments:
- Pain relievers and NSAIDs
- Anti-seizure medications like gabapentin
- Antidepressants such as duloxetine
- Topical pain-relieving patches or creams

Non-drug approaches:
- Physical therapy to improve mobility and balance
- Acupuncture
- Exercise and yoga
- Massage

It's important to talk with your oncology team about preventing and managing neuropathy, as they may adjust your chemotherapy dose or recommend different medications. Early intervention can help prevent serious complications and permanent nerve damage.

If you're interested in cryotherapy specifically, it's worth asking your doctor whether this approach might be appropriate for your situation.
