Please take to heart suggestions above, anxiety affects your immune system and now is when you need to do everything to help yourself. Not sure if cannabis is legal for you or not but I get gummies that are specifically made for sleep and they work better than melatonin or Tylenol pm. Repeat to yourself I’ve got this. 😘🙏

@A MyBCTeam Member: please keep up the search as there are definitely therapists/counselors that specifically deal with cancer and the aftermath - and they don't necessarily need to be in your area as I know some can definitely do their appointments online via Zoom (or other online platforms).

Secondly - and I know its hard - but you have to stop yourself from reading what upsets you or freaks you out. If you're looking at something, the second your anxiety starts tingling in the slightest, close it, stop it, scroll on by. I know its crazy hard because there's so much out there - especially fear-mongering stuff with scary headlines that purposely draw you to it. But the logical part of you knows that no good will come to your mental/emotional health by looking at it.

As for sleep - invest in a really good sleep mask (the darker it is the more natural melatonin your brain releases. And you may need something stronger than melatonin - ask your Dr for zopiclone (called Lunestra in the U.S.). It's typically prescribed to PTSD patients because they often have very disturbed sleep/night terrors, and it helps to calm the mind so you can get some restful sleep. Best part is that it's not habit-forming, and you don't wake up feeling groggy (at least I never have). No screen time within at least 2 hours of bedtime, keep your room as cool as possible, and no caffeine in the evening.

Lastly, if you're having any thoughts whatsoever of dying as a solution, please absolutely tell your doctor ASAP. Even if you were temporarily hospitalized, don't think that you will be surrounded by people who want to die. That is most often not the case - usually its the opposite and people don't want to die but just need some help learning to cope with some really, really difficult things - and there's absolutely no shame in that. Getting yourself back to a healthy, peaceful heart and headspace is all that matters - no matter what it takes.

Sending great big warm unicorn hugs your way 🩷🦄

Hi, this is just a check-in, based on a phrase you mentioned. If you — or anyone else who sees this — is thinking about self-harm, we want to say that you are an important part of this community. No part of this is easy, but there is support that can help. Read more >

Katie, is there a local in-person support group in your area? You may be able to connect with the ladies there, and get recommendations on who might be a better match (and who to avoid!). Wishing you all the best in this search! Hugs!
