I have severe insomnia that neither my pcp or oncologist care to help me with. I visited with my gyno but estrogen/progesterone patches are simply out of the question. I'm suffering to the point where I have zero energy for my family ir my fiance. I've tried Ambien and Trazadon but it didnt work. My pcp wants me to see a psychiatrist and I'm floored at the thought. My thyroid bloodwork was normal and rheumatoid arthritis specialist said the same. I feel like both doctors are paining me off to… read more

Clear with your Dr. to take the following if you are not already taking the following sleep remedies:
Melatonin
Tart Cherry capsules
Magnesium glycinate
Please ask any other questions you have on this.
Are you taking an AI or tamoxifen?
Either can cause insomnia and loss of energy.
Try to walk a bit or do exercise too.
Will your dr give you a prescription for medical cannabis? I take cannabis gummies for sleep and they work. Melatonin gave me nightmares.
I'm so sorry you have such bad insomnia. It does affect all aspects of your life. I would not hesitate to see a psychologist (or similar doctor). They can be very helpful. 🙏🩷
Hi Michelle
I am so sorry you're experiencing insomnia. I don't think a person can relate to how it feels when you have insomnia unless they have experienced it to a high degree. It may be beneficial to speak with a psychologist etc. there may be some strategies they can explore to help improve your overall wellbeing and improve your sleep

Michelle, HER2+ is not a hormone receptor, perhaps you are HR+ (Hormone Recepters, both Estrogen and Progesterone)?
My diagnosis was HER2+ (Human Epidermal Growth Factor 2), no hormone involvement, so hormone blockers have no impact for me.
It has been reported that as much as 60% of patients on the hormone blockers experience sleep disturbances, including insomnia. I have always had an issue with insomnia, night terrors, and when young- sleepwalking!
Like Sue, I have found the tart cherry capsules, and magnesium helpful. I tried melatonin 5 mg, then 10 mg with only minimal improvement. Then I tried a 10 mg with extended release- and that was a winner!
Of course, run any supplements, etc. past your oncology team and your PCP to make sure they don't have any concerns about it interfering with your meds- cancer or otherwise!
Hope you can find some relief soon! Hugs!
