I am coming up on my first mammogram post left breast reconstruction. Has anyone had a mammogram of a breast that was reconstructed with a gel breast implant? I was initally told by the PS this was not possible. That an MRI would be needed. However, my breast surgeon ordered a bilateral mammogram with 3D tomosynthesis. I thought maybe she made a mistake . I am so confused. Just wondering if others have had a mammogram after an implant
If you let radiology know they do assign a specific technician. In addition some centers don’t provide the service so check that when you make the appointment
Thanks for your reply. Doctor finally got back to me to say she wanted a new baseline mammogram of both breasts since both were operated on.
Can you call the doctor that ordered the test and ask questions? You could also call radiology and ask them questions as well. It may be as simple as a different protocol with a different medical system. I don't know what a PS is or when you saw them but 3D mammography is fairly new so it might be only available to specialty providers such as a breast surgeon. It certainly looks better than an MRI.
Being new technology it offers better imaging while being far more tolerable for the patient. It looks like a win to me.
