I recently went to a functional medicine lecture on prevention of breast cancer recurrence and wanted any info and input you may have on these supplements. Thanks in advance.

HI...I went to a functional doctor before I was diagnosed with BC. My doctor definitely has me on Alpha Lipoic Acid, Circumin, and Vitamin D w/ K3( my Vit D is very low--which is often times prevalent with BC). I have also gone to a plant based diet...which is highly recommended...or eliminate refined sugar and processed foods. If you are interested in other meds ….there is a great resource website....www.chrisbeatcancer.com where he explains the non-traditional methods he took and has been cancer free for 14 years. I have found this site with great lectures and podcasts with people who have beat a variety of cancers...especially with non-traditional methods. You may want to check it out. Wishing you good health in the future!

Yes to DIM.

Also CLA, curcumin and fucoiden, all in the recommendation of my Integrative MD.

I’ll have to search ALA, I’m not so familiar...

I have...as I said before, I was taking all supplements before the diagnosis. Then I had to go off of everything pre and then post surgery...and remain off during radiation 31x. I waited 6 weeks after radiation to ramp up the supplements again. I started in 6mos ago with Letrazole...post surgery 4mos. And yes...the hot flashes are significant...something new for me....sigh. If you are trying to understand dosages I would suggest meeting with an Integrated Medicine Doctor...often times they are not easy to find--I have to drive 3+ hours and 1 year waitlisted to see mine. Since my diagnosis to help with the metastatic cancer, I take the following: Alpha Lipoic Acid; Circumin; ;N-acetylcysteine (NAC) supplement; Berberine; Probiotics; and Super Enzymes. I go to see the Functional Doctor this coming week--I will definitely ask about DIM...and investigating more in working with the enzymes. My Oncologist is older and old school....he kind of rolls his eyes when he sees the list of supplements...I really do not care...I just want to be rid of this dreadful disease and regain my health. Hope this helps!

Thanks so much ladies for your responses. Is anyone taking these supplements along with the hormone blockers?

I am still trying to research them and their standard dosages. I felt like i was listening to a chemistry lesson and was amazed at some of the supplements that are available.

@A MyBCTeam Member DIM stands for diindolylmethane which is supposed to have cancer preventatives that are normally found in cruciferous vegetables.

Please ladies, continue this thread if possible. Hugs and thanks!

I have been using massage and vitamin E oil but I really do not see much change. I find that exercise helps but must be done consistently.

You might want to place this question in the Q+A section instead of as an attachment or thread to this one. Your question would be seen by more readers.
