Hello!
I had my last chemo treatment in August of last year and am still struggling with neuropathy in both hands and as well as my feet. I have been taking gabbapentin for about a year and a half because the neuropathy start just after my first treatment. I was up to 2400mg/day at one point! I finally figured out this was why I was feeling like a forgetful crazy zombie person and self reduced to 1200mg. That dose covered the majority of the pain, but still made feel feel like I was losing my… read more
I finally gave in and my Pain Specialist gave me a therapeutic dose of Gabapentin, 900 mg. I am going to try not to go any higher. He prescribed it for my fibromyalgia but it helps my neuropayhy a little. I worry about the forgetfulness and walk around with a pen and post it nuts otherwise I lose my train of thought. I think some may still be from chemo. My survivorship nurse told me many people struggle with memory issues after chemo for years. I have tried vit B 6 and b 12, magnesium, alpha Lipoic acid and biotin. I find the best way to deal with the neuropathy pain is exercise.
I have painful neuropathy in my feet, I was prescribed amitriptylene. It's an antidepressant but helps with neuropathy. I was on exemestane,I'm not sure if you can use it with tamoxifen. Amitriptylene helped with the pain, but I gained weight pretty quickly. It's a side effect for some people. I stopped it and applied for a medical marijuana card, it's legal in my state .My neurologist has been urging me to try it. Hope this helps!
Sorry you are having such issues but yours is the 1st time I read about some of the craziness that comes with gabapentin. I've been attributing all my brain farts and misfocus on lingering chemo fog. Now I can add in from drugs. Doesn't help, but good to know that is a possible cause. Let's hope we both get some kind of relief soon!
I have neuropathy mostly in my arms and hand and a little in my toes. I refused any meds because of the memory issues. When I was on xanex my memory really began to fade and I didn't like the feeling. I take a B complex tablet, B-6, B-12, Tumeric and 750 mg of magnesium everyday. I also add a cup of Epsom Salt to a warm bath. I have tried different essential oil blends to massage into my hands and feet at night.
