I have IDC grade 3a. I just received my nutrition packet. I'm overwhelmed by what not to eat? What kind of diet do you follow? Pretty much I was told 1/3 animal products & 2/3 plant products. Restrict grilling & smoking meat. This is going to be rough since my husband & uses his smoker all summer. Restrict sugar and simple carbs. I'm just so worried about hormones in the meat & milk products. Only 1/3 animal products?? I guess I never realized how much animal products I eat! I love… read more

I eat a high protein, low carb diet - definitely a lot of meat and eggs since I hate most legumes. I was only told to stay away from "white" foods since they tend to lack nutritional value (sugar, flour, bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, corn) except for greek yogurt, but then we eat it plain with fresh fruit.
I have lost over 15 pounds following this regimen. We eat a lot of vegetables and fruits, absolutely no sodas, artificial sweeteners, hardly any honey (it's just sugar), nutritional shakes, creamers etc. We drink red wine, coffee, black tea, a lot of water, very little fruit juice or milk.
Look into "the Whole 30" eating plan to get an idea of what a sugar-free diet looks like.

I was told low fat dairy ( there was a study at Kaiser that stated women on low fat dairy or nondairy did better.), organic foods and minimal sugar. I have pretty much given up meat as it does have a lot of hormones. Also excercise, excercise, excercise. I was told to get my BMI to ideal range which has been very difficult. During chemo only bread tastes good - so I ate a lot of breads.

my oncologist said that there was no certain diet to follow but just try to eat healthy and in moderation. He said there was nothing I couldn't have but that doesn't mean you should eat it all the time.

I only changed my diet a little. More fruits and veggies, less red meat. I couldn't eat much bread, because it tasted like paste. I drank lots of water and Powerade. Whenever I felt nauseated, crackers were perfect. I fortunately didn't get sick the whole time during treatments. The only issue I came across was anemia, which is common and iron tablets can fix.
