You're definitely not alone in this! Joint and bone pain are among the most common side effects of letrozole, and many people on MyBCTeam have shared similar experiences. Almost half of people in one clinical study reported joint pain while taking letrozole.

One MyBCTeam member shared: "For the first six months, I had some pretty significant leg and hip pain, especially if I sat too long. After six months, the pain started getting better, and now I hardly have any pain!" Here are some ways that may help manage bone and joint pain while on letrozole:

- Weight-bearing exercise to help strengthen bones
- Calcium and vitamin D intake to support bone health
- Managing your weight, as a higher BMI has been linked to increased joint pain with aromatase inhibitors
- Bone-strengthening medications like zoledronic acid or denosumab (for those at higher risk β€” ask your doctor)
- Bone density scans (DEXA scans) to monitor bone health over time

It's really important to talk to your healthcare team about your arm and bone pain, especially since severe or persistent pain should always be evaluated. They may adjust your treatment or suggest additional support. Also, please be aware that pain, warmth, or swelling specifically in an arm can sometimes be a sign of a blood clot, which is a more serious concern. It's worth mentioning this to your doctor promptly just to be safe.
