@A MyBCTeam Member .... Yes, blood clots are a side effect of Letrozole and the other AIs plus Tamoxifan too. Just having cancer makes you higher risk for blood clots. So do chemo and chemo ports. Definitely a good idea to be proactive and ask your oncologist if it's ok to add a daily aspirin to the mix. I ended getting a blood clot in my neck by my chemo port and another one in my lung a couple weeks after I finished chemo the first time and they've had me on a blood thinner ever since. Better to be safe than sorry ❤️
Rosegardengal. I was just concerned since letrozole can give you blood clots maybe one aspirin a day will help just in case. I’m also 70 years old. I was asking my pink sisters before bringing it up with my onco . You do make a valid point. I thank you! Hugs
As an fyi, the liver processes Tylenol and the kidneys process aspirin, ibuprofen, and the other NSAID meds. Before I was placed on blood thinners I wasn't allowed to take aspirin, ibuprofin, or any other NSAIDS because I am missing half of a kidney and those types of meds would put extra stress on my already compromised kidneys. When you are on blood thinners it's not safe to take aspirin, ibuprofen, or NSAIDS either since they also thin your blood.
That's a great question to bring up! While baby aspirin isn't specifically flagged as a direct interaction with letrozole, it's still really important to check with your oncology team before combining any over-the-counter medications with your treatment.
