I was diagnosed with stage II ILC of the pleomorphic type in 10/2019 of the right breast and had a mastectomy in 12/2019. I have been on anastrozole since 01/2020. I have had a DEXA scan each year. Initially I was osteopenia and was taking vitamin D and calcium and walking 2 miles daily but by 2024 I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in the lower spine. Of the options given I chose to get Prolia shots every 6 months. I didnt want to take another pill. My oncologist wanted me on Prolia a year before I actually started but I had some reluctance due to the side effects of the medication. The Prolia stories on the internet scared me. My dentist told me that there is a possibility if major dental work is needed that it could be a problem. I went to see an endocrinologist who would administer the Prolia and she gave me different options for treating osteoporosis including fosamax. I chose Prolia after reassuring me that Prolia was safe. I also talked to someone I knew on Prolia and she said she had no side effects. I found out that after 6 months Prolia is out of your system so any major dental work would be scheduled at that 6 month period. I started the shots in 2024 and so far so good. My bone density has improved and is back to osteopenia and I haven't had any side effects from Prolia. I just have to have some bloodwork done a month before each shot.
