What support is available for managing scan anxiety related to breast cancer?

This sounds like a wonderful support opportunity! Scanxiety is incredibly common among people with breast cancer, and having a trained social worker facilitate discussions can be really helpful.

Many people experience anxiety around scans - feeling tense, having trouble sleeping, worrying about results, or even physical symptoms like increased heart rate and trouble concentrating. The waiting period for results can be especially stressful.

Here are some strategies that can help manage scanxiety:

Before Your Scan:
- Schedule scans earlier in the day to reduce waiting time
- Keep a busy, consistent routine with regular sleep and exercise
- Set small daily goals to maintain a sense of control
- Prepare questions for your care team ahead of time

During Anxious Moments:
- Try guided breathing exercises (breathe in for 5, hold for 5, breathe out for 5)
- Practice meditation or yoga to stay present
- Use relaxation techniques to slow your heart rate

For Ongoing Support:
- Talk with a therapist, counselor, or social worker
- Connect with others who understand through support groups
- Lean on family and friends who can help you through the experience

These group sessions covering scanxiety, survivorship, self-care, and confidence sound like they address many of the emotional challenges that come with breast cancer.
