I am sorry it had to be drained a third time. Has the fluid output been less with each drainage? Ask the doctor about a referral for a lymphedema therapist- it is usually a PT, but sometimes it is an OT. They can teach you different exercises and massages to help get that fluid moving and hopefully prevent future buildup! I hope you are feeling more comfortable with each day! Hugs!

How can you help fluid drain from your armpit after lymph node removal?

Fluid buildup (seroma) at the surgical site is a common issue after lymph node removal. Since you've already had it drained three times, here are some approaches that may help:

Movement and Exercise
Doing your prescribed exercises is essential for recovery. Movement helps promote drainage, but it's important not to overdo it. Stick to exactly what your doctor recommends - no more and no less - as overdoing it can worsen swelling.

Physical Therapy
Exercise and physical therapy can help relieve fluid buildup and improve arm mobility. Your doctor may recommend specific exercises to help you regain flexibility while supporting proper drainage.

Watch for Infection
Monitor the surgical site for signs of infection like discoloration, warmth, swelling, or oozing. Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these symptoms, as infection can complicate healing.

Follow Aftercare Instructions
Following your surgeon's aftercare instructions carefully and attending all follow-up appointments is crucial to avoid long-term complications.

If the fluid continues to accumulate despite drainage, talk to your healthcare team about additional treatment options. They may need to adjust your care plan.
