They have tried my forearm before. It hurt like hell! It left a knot the size of a golf ball for 2 months that turned my whole forearm black and purple and blue. Never again! Anywhere but the forearm!

@A MyBCTeam Member They've used the butterfly needle on me before. Most of the time I'm a good stick, but sometimes that scar tissue in my vein can be a real pain!!😬 If there are new people that don't know my veins, it's usually a painful stick. I give them 3 tries, after that if they can't hit the vein, we call it a day! I can't take them digging in my arm for blood! Thanks for the advice!

When you have a blood draw, ask that they use a butterfly needle.
This is used on kids and the needle is tiny.
Still can get the blood out easily.

I have even insisted that they use the butterfly needle on my hand one time. Was told did not need to do that.

I end up with a tiny spot where the needle went in which disappears. Just the size of the needle.

Also, tell them about the bruising with the blood procure. They may be using the wrong size and can do it gently.

@A MyBCTeam Member I can't take aspirin because it makes my stomach bleed. Acetaminophen doesn't do that. I take oxycodone 7.5 with 325mg acetaminophen daily for back and hip pain, any bone and muscle discomfort. I make sure I'm constantly drinking fluids 24 to 36 hours prior to my visit. I also take 650mgs of acetaminophen to help with daily pain and stiffness. I drink lots of fluids the day before bloodwork. I hate that blood pressure cuff too ! It hurts! I get bruised from that also!😬

Anytime I get bloodwork done I end up being one big bruise for a couple of weeks, sometimes a month! It takes me longer to heal from cuts and bruises and infections. Sometimes my platelets get a little low and I tend to easily bruise a lot! It looks worse than it feels. I make sure that I remember to hydrate at least 2 days before bloodwork! My blood gets really thick if I dont. Sometimes even the tourniquet will bruise my upper arm. I wish there was something that could be done to eliminate scar tissue in the veins!!! I don't want to get a port!!!
