Thank you everyone for the advice. It's Easter Sunday and my immediate family is meeting up for dinner. My plan is to discuss it with them today so it can be a one and done conversation. Fingers crossed
I did not tell anyone outside of my husband, until I had all the tests and imaging done, met with the surgeon, and had a treatment plan lined up. Then, I told my coworkers- being in a school setting, where it is def a team effort taking care of our special needs kiddos- I wanted everyone on board with who I would have in as a long-term sub, and let them know that I would have continued absences every three weeks for a year. That was good practice for telling my family.
Then, I told my sons and their wives. I know my boys, they would (and did) have a lot of questions. I knew if I could not answer them with confidence, they would feel I was holding something back. Then I told my brother, and my elderly mother. Everyone was very supportive. You know your family best- you will know the right time, place, and manner to share. It is not an easy step, Keeping you in prayers as you navigate through this! Hugs!
I was able to sit down with everyone after dinner and explain everything. My sister was the only one who previously knew and she was there to support me. I was worried most about my mother since she's elderly and in a fragile state of health. But she took it better than I thought. She was visibly upset, cried a little and asked questions. So I'm glad that's over with and now have additional prayers coming my way
I didn't tell my then 26 yr old twins until 4 months after diagnosis and surgery and I didn''t tell my oldest son until a year after diagnoses.
my diagnosis was Dec 2024, I was just around alot of Family Good Friday 2025, and I thought wow, they just don't know wht i have going on, but I didn't feel like it -mentioning my battles., ur right it's gotta be the right place time, energy gotta be right, plus one on one preferences for me.
But if telling ppl pressures u heavy on the mind and ur indecisive, you may not be ready, wait until ur energy is ready!
Some friends n family talk 2 much and this May NOT be the gossip for them to knw, until
