When researching what keeps Breast cancer from recurrence after 5-10 yrs of drug therapy with Aromatase inhibitors, the claim is the drugs continue preventing recurrence for a few years after treatment is done but that is only if taken for the recommended 5 years
After that, estrogen will return to the body

I have decided that I am going to feel hungry almost every day. I eat a late breakfast and dinner no later than 7pm. I try to eat a handful of almonds or half an apple with a little bit of peanut butter when I have to have something crunchy. I have lost about 10lbs. while taking tamoxifen. It's not easy but I keep at it.

Hello Barbara66. I have often thought about what happens to your body after the 5 years. I have often read about it. I have an appointment soon with my oncologist. I'm definitely going to talk about this. Every individual is different and there are the side effects to think about too. So far I haven't had any bad side effects since I been taking Anastrozole and trying to keep my weight which is still at 135lbs. Exercise and meditation has really helped me. I thank God daily. Thank you for sharing. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ™๐ŸŒน

@A MyBCTeam Member I know. One of the worse things for estrogen is body fat, extra fat means more estrogen but what are women to do when we are on drugs that pile the weight on and then with age also making it hard to lose weight. I really don't have the answer. After women are done taking these hormone blockers they need to somehow lose the weight they gained.

A Mediterranean-style diet rich in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and fish has been linked to higher breast cancer survival rates. Leafy greens like spinach, kale, and Swiss chard are particularly beneficial as they contain fiber, folate, and antioxidants that help reduce inflammation and support immune system function. These nutrients can help protect healthy cells, especially during and after treatment. Regarding supplements, it's important to note that no dietary supplements have been proven to treat or cure breast cancer. Always consult with your healthcare team before starting any supplements, as some may interfere with treatment. It's generally recommended to get nutrients from food sources rather than supplements unless specifically prescribed for deficiencies. Regular physical activity plays a crucial role in breast cancer survival and reducing recurrence risk. Aim for 2.5 to 5 hours of moderate exercise or 1.25 to 2.5 hours of intense exercise weekly. Studies show this level of activity can result in a significantly lower chance of cancer recurrence and improved overall survival rates. Focus on eating whole grains for sustained energy and fiber, which helps regulate blood sugar levels and promotes digestive health. Consider limiting or avoiding red meat, processed foods, and alcohol, as these may influence estrogen levels. If needed, work with a registered dietitian to develop a personalized nutrition plan that supports your health goals while still allowing you to enjoy food.
