Wow, you had a rough time! I’m glad you had good ending though😉🤗. Plastic surgeon was worried about that if I hsve expanders which would delay my radiation so he decided it would be best to do diep flap 6 months after radiation ends. My DMX is June 17

I experienced a delay with having DIEP Flap Reconstruction after developing two infections in the right breast. The first infection, I had the expander replaced within 4 week. I spent 5 days on IV antibiotics in the hospital and discharged on oral antibiotics. Once the second infection occurred (4 weeks later from the first infection) they remove the expander completely followed by the same process as I did the first time around. A good dose of antibiotics and rest. I had to wait until the infection completely cleared prior to surgery which was a little over a month. In the process I developed scar tissue and some thinning to the skin. I was extremely nervous about what to expect. My DIEP Flap was done 3/26/24, I am pleased with the outcome 😁 despite what I went through. I didn't need chemo or radiation but it was exhausting on the body and mind. Be patient, stay strong and it will all work out for the best❤️!
