Being educated and doing your research certainly helps when you meet with doctors. I found a book that gave me so much insight and information before my bilateral mastectomy. It’s about all the different treatments not just mastectomies. It’s on Amazon.

Hi. I had a partial mastectomy on Deb. 8 along with a sentinel lymph node biopsy. Margins were clear and lymph nodes showed no evidence of disease. I went yesterday to get my markers for radiation which I will start the week of Jan. 15. My oncologist has already given me a prescription for Anastrozole and told me to start taking it after I finish radiation. I have educated myself as much as possible about breast cancer and the various treatments. I want to be able to understand what the doctors tell me and be able to ask the right questions. This will help me make intelligent decisions where there is a choice. If there are things I don't understand, all of the offices have nurse advocates who are available to help me. My hospital also has a nurse navigator who periodically checks on me to see how I'm doing and to answer any questions or address any concerns. I feel very confident with my care team. Several women in my church have been through breast cancer and have shared their experiences with me as well as encouraged me. My prognosis is positive and oddly enough I haven't been scared. Maybe that is because of my faith, maybe because of my age and the fact that my children are grown, but I thought I would be a wreck if this ever happened but I'm not. Maybe it will hit me later. But so far, so good.

The medical oncologist wanted me to take Leterzole during the radiation therapy. That is dealing with 2 adjustments at once.

I said that I would start it after radiation and that was a good decision for me. Everyone is different.
My 4 weeks of radiation ended on March 1st and I started the Letrozole on March 18th which gave me a breather after radiation to recuperate.

I would consider your age and any other health issues and bluntly ask the oncologist why they want everything at once.

They are not you….Ask if if would cause a problem to wait a week or 2 and why…Ask how many patients do this and how many wait a bit…..

I started my letrozole a month after my last radiation treatment. But I was still on the herceptin which I was on it for a year. Herceptin and taxol every week for three months then after that every three weeks to finish out the year on the herceptin. The every week of it counted towards my year of it.
