I had a diep flap procedure a year after healing from chemo and radiation. Since the, (5/2015), I have had 3-5 additional procedures to fill divots where blood supply was poor and the fat transfer tissue didn’t take. They have been simple day surgery with additional fat grafting. Has anyone else had experience with this?
Just completed my third “revision surgery” to fill absorbed pockets of fat. Very quick and easy though I would have to say the areas where fat was taken from have been so bruised and sore which I NEVER had in other procedures. Still, would never doubt my decision to have this done. The initial implant plan was immediately discarded during the mascectomy when the skin was not able to support a tissue expander. Good luck!
It was a difficult 15+ hour surgery and 6 week recovery to return to work. The liposuction was a bonus though I am not really overweight to begin with. I was in the hospital for a week at least. I would imagine having both sides done would be much more challenging to get around. I could also not have coffee or chocolate for two weeks which was terrible! The caffeine impedes healing I guess. Good luck!
I appreciate you asking this question. I meet with plastics next month to come up with diep flap surgery plan. I am suppose to have surgery next March and am dreading it.
