I have had a bilateral Mastectomy, TCHP chemo, and herceptin for a year. I did the chemo to eradicate any cancer cells that were left Why is the tamoxifen require did I only have a 3% recurrence rate without it? The side effects for tamoxifen in week one, muscle pain, insomnia and leg edema. Ugh. Not fun and how necessary??!? Any insight would be great. Thanks.

I had a 18% chance of reoccurrence without it. (9% with it). Side effects were awful for me too. I went back in to the Oncologist after 6 weeks. I barely had the words out of my mouth. She didn't even hesitate when she told me to quit. No regrets. I did decide to have a hysterectomy as an added precaution. Its really your choice

I couldn't stand the side effects as well, quit after a few months. I am also her2+, stage 1. My oncologist didn't hesitate and told me the side effects weren't worth the small added benefit of staying on it. I want to live my life as normally as possible, and tamoxifen made me feel anything but. It's a personal decision but I know there are lots of women out there doing the same. Quality of life is important!!!

3% is pretty low; double check with your onco if this is fact for your particular cancer and tx thus far. If your young, they may be hoping to have you under the U Bella of some sort of tx until you cross over to true menopause, concideri g that you are hormone sensitive.

SE's bite, it's true. I take extra strength Curamin for pain from my aromatase inhibitor. Works really well.
insomnia is a HUGE player during and following tx, as so many can attest here. Especially if one had a propensity to it before.
I've taken 20 mgs melatonin with success. Recently I've heard tart cherry juice before bed has surprising results.
