For me I've been on aneatrole & letrozole & nowx AITomixifen... all of them arimasen inhibitors all of them extreme fatigue- letrozole mental confusion mind lapses ,cognitive deficiencies joint pain palpitating heart you name it. I cannot tolerate it.. I am on my 4th one
. they're putting me on tamoxifen. But arimasen inhibitors I could not tolerate I couldn't function -I couldn't think straight -anything it was just no quality of life

for me aromatase inhibitor(arimadex) makes me very tired. ihave been on it about 5mths.

I get Zometa infusion twice a year to counteract bone loss, and that has the positive side effect of helping to stave off recurrence.

I am definitely over the AIs! I started with Arimidex and because of the increase in joint pain - to the point I found myself crying by the end of the day on some days - my oncologist switched me to Aromasin. I have been on Aromasin for over a little over a year now. Initially the joint pain subsided for a bit but now, instead of the side effects subsiding over time, they have gotten increasingly worse. Despite my commitment to carry out this phase of therapy, I am getting to the point of not being able to handle it anymore. I recently had a bone density scan and my bone density, in one year, has gone from what is considered normal for a woman my age (56) to teetering on osteoporosis! My oncologist wants me to start taking another drug that will improve my bone density. I really do not want to start down the path of taking a drug to counteract the side effects of another drug. I recently read a study done at the Center of Excellence in Cancer Research, Department of Biomedical Sciences, Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. The research involved post menopausal mouse models and the conclusion was that the current standard of care using AIs was not working, mainly because the majority of breast cancer patients went off of them because of the side effects. They further concluded that bioidentical hormone therapy resulted in greater health, both cognitive and physical, including weight loss. They determined that further studies need to be done regarding bioidentical hormone therapy. The gist of the study was that because HRT was found to be causing cancer, all hormone therapy was bad, when in reality, bioidentical hormone therapy in the right doses resulted in greater health and well being and longer survival rates, at least in the lab mice study. I have been on Exemestane for a while now. I still feel exhausted and have some joint pain. My onc was going to have me try one of the sister drugs to see if they are any better. After reading @A MyBCTeam Member's post, I am not so sure switching will make much of a difference.
