In my experience with bilateral mastectomy. My breast surgeon wanted to keep me in the hospital for three days. I needed someone with me 48-72 hours after discharge. I was given a camisole that is made to hold the drains (dislike drains). Wear tops that are loose fitting. I was allowed to shower on my day of discharge. Just follow doctor's orders. Your doctor will refer you to a physical therapist to determine how much range of motion you have lost and also give you exercises to help regain some of the range of motion you lost. You will do just fine.

I am single and live alone. I ended up at my sister for about 3 weeks after surgery. I could not drive for 3 weeks. A friend drove up and took me to weekly PS appointments. I could not do any lifting over about 5 lbs. I had shirt that button up, that way I did not have to raise my arms over my hear. I could not shower for about 3 days after surgery. When I could shower, even with the drains, I used a shoe string and made a loop and attached the drain to the shoe string to make showering easy. Had to sleep on my back, so a wedge or extra pillow came in handy. Once all the drain were out, I worn a undershirt since I did not wear a bra with my shirts. Hope this help out some. Good luck.
