Plastic surgeon has twice gone in surgically to "break up" these areas, and took more fat to fill in areas. Not resolved, one area in particular still very hard and uncomfortable. Dr. says give it time. Has anyone experienced this? Seems to me he needs to remove the fat necrosis and replace it. But, I'm still very tender from where he took the fat a month ago to try to resolve this. I don't know if I should just live with it, or pursue more corrective surgery. Suggestions?
Just wanted to give you an update. I started physical therapy about four weeks ago doing both myofascia release and physical therapy. I also started wearing a swell spot pad several hours a day on my affected side. It is making a huge difference. I am dealing with swelling, necrosis spots, and scar tissue. I hope some of this helps
@A MyBCTeam Member I am just 2 months post surgical with bilateral free flap. I have multiple hard areas on my affected side. My medical oncologist suggested pt and massage therapy. I am waiting to hear from my ps to prescribe. Please share if you get feedback.
Thanks
Laura1010, I'm not familiar with "swell spot pad". What is that? Is it for the necrosis or for lymphedema? I met with with my plastic surgeon again, and he wants to do additional surgery - remove the fat necrosis and move fat from elsewhere to replace it.
I am 6 1/2 years cancer free continuing to deal with fat necrosis.
I have developed lymphedema in my hand and lower arm. I have a great physical therapist who has done MLD and wrapping; and I wear a glove and sleeve. That, however, is not the problem I'm referring to in my original question. I have hard areas of fat necrosis in both breasts after bilateral mastectomy and DIEP flat reconstruction. Wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this, and what remedy was taken.
