I have had 1 drain pulled out 7 days after mastectomy and it wasn't bad at all. I still have 2 drains left and not fearful at all about getting them removed.For me it felt like some body pinched me and it was over. What bothered me the most was the itching after they pulled the drain ( wound healing) . You will surprised as to how non painful it is.

Mine wasn't bad at all. To me it was like having blood drawn. I didn't look. I was just happy to get them out because I really wanted to shower without worrying and sleep normal again.

Just had mine taken out yesterday was out before I realized she had taken it out!

I had a lot of anxiety about this. I had one removed after my lymph node dissection. Then, came home with 2 drains after BMX. When it was time to get them out, I was so ready. I told the nurse "you don't have to tell me what you are doing, just tell me when to take a deep breath." It really takes seconds, and no worse than getting your ears pierced!

The pain is tolerated. What the nurse will do is have you take a deep breath and when you take a deep breath the second time the nurse will pull the drain out.
