I’ve had lumpectomy and radiation done, diagnosed early stage ER PR positive 7 months ago, meeting medical oncologist for first time this week. Also waiting for biopsy done by a gynocologist on thick uterine lining and heavy periods since quitting pill.

Wishing you the very best.. Record the conversation and ask all the questions Al generated. You may want to get a comp book and write down some questions in advance in case they are not covered in your visit. Please stay in touch so we know how you're doing. Hugs

Meeting your medical oncologist for the first time is a big step — and going in prepared can make a real difference. Since you're ER/PR positive and have completed a lumpectomy and radiation, hormone therapy will likely be a key topic of discussion.

Meeting your medical oncologist for the first time is a big step — and going in prepared can make a real difference. Since you're ER/PR positive and have completed a lumpectomy and radiation, hormone therapy will likely be a key topic of discussion.

Here are some important questions to bring to your appointment:

About Your Diagnosis & Prognosis
- What does being ER/PR positive mean for my treatment plan?
- What is my overall prognosis given my early-stage diagnosis?
- What is my risk of recurrence?

About Hormone Therapy
- Is hormone therapy recommended for me, and which type?
- What are the side effects of hormone therapy, including effects on my menstrual cycle and uterine lining?
- How long will I need to take it?

About Your Uterine Biopsy Results
- Given my pending biopsy results, could hormone therapy options change depending on those findings?
- Should my oncologist and gynecologist be communicating directly about my care?

General
- How often will follow-up appointments be needed?
- Should I consider a clinical trial?
- What symptoms should prompt me to call between appointments?

It's worth bringing all your medical records, a list of any medications or supplements, and your insurance information. A MyBCTeam member suggested writing questions down and leaving space to note the answers — and asking for clarification on anything unclear.

Recording the appointment on your phone (with permission) is also a great idea — there's a lot of information to absorb!
