Members offered a wealth of practical tips for someone preparing for a lumpectomy who lives alone, covering everything from bras to daily living adjustments. Several members recommended front-closure or zip-front sports bras from Walmart, Kohl's, and Amazon, with brands like Jockey, YOGAPRO, and Tupaba Jelly mentioned as favorites for comfort and support. A recurring theme was preparing your home ahead of time by lowering items from high shelves, freezing pre-cooked meals, gathering extra pillows for positioning, wearing front-opening tops, and planning for lazy recovery days with books and easy entertainment.

Rose gave a pretty comprehensive list. I'd add robes or shirts that open in the front .It makes dressing a lot easier.

Pillows.... you will want to prop up your arm on the side you have surgery. It helps to have a pillow in the car to keep the seat belt from rubbing against your chest, it's good to have one next to you on the couch when you're watching tv, it's good to have one when you're lying in bed trying to sleep, and you may want to have a few pillows behind your back in bed so you can sit more upright. Another helpful thing is getting anything and everything you may need to use during the initial days of your recovery that are normally kept on a high shelf or cabinet down to a lower level where you can reach them. You can't stretch and reach right after you have surgery. I always cook before I have surgery and then I will freeze individual servings of what I've made. That way you have a pre-made, healthy homemaade tv like dinners that you can just throw in the microwave. I find it helpful at first when I shower to have a stool in the shower. Sometimes after surgery you get tired and it can zap your energy trying to stand in the shower and bathe and wash your hair. If you color your hair get that done right before surgery because you won't be able to have it done for a little while after surgery cuz it csn be uncomfortable. I've had both mastectomies and lumpectomies. The lumpectomies aren't all that difficult recovery wise. Sometimes doctors won't allow you to shower for the first week after surgery. If that's the case for you and you feel like you need to get your hair washed then go to the beauty parlor and have them wash it for you. I did that when I had the mastectomy and it made all the difference in the world to have a clean head of hair. Also get baby wipes so you can give yourself sponge baths if you can't shower. Other than that just try and have all your household chores done and grocery shopping done and get yourself set up so you can amuse yourself on the couch while you're watching tv. If you like reading get some new books and that sort of thing. Good luck, I hope your surgery goes well ❤️

Great advice from Rose. As far as bras go, I started out with a sports bra that zipped in the front easy to get in and out of and plus no wires so was comfortable now that I am past the lumpectomy healing I really like the bras by body and bra. They are comfortable and supportive.

Janet you just raised an eyebrow 🤨 lol in a good way. This was encouraging to hear. I had meniscus surgery and it was a breeze for me. Now my breast may be a different response so we shall see see. Yet I’m still encouraged to hear your experience. Okay thanks a bunch and air hugs glad you were good in the end!

My surgeon approved the one I got on Amazon. The straps were too loose so she pinned them up. Said she pinned straps all day. Zip front, very supportive, and comfortable even a year later. Brand: YOGAPRO, zip front closure post surgery bra. I tried others when swelling went down. Went back to this bra..one size down. Others not supportive. I am not even buxeum any more!
Best luck.
