Watch your diet today and avoid anything that might cause you to retain fluid. Have a bag of frozen peas ready for when you get home, it makes a nice moldable ice pack! SanO, I truly understand the soreness. Here are some tips that I've used over the years.
-Take an OTC pain reliever like ibuprofen or acetaminophen 45 mins to 1hr before the procedure.
- Schedule your mammo a week after your periods when your breasts are least tender.
-Avoid caffeine a few days before your screening.

- Time it right β Breasts tend to be least tender mid-cycle, away from your period
- Skip the salt β Reducing salt intake in the days before can help reduce breast swelling
- Avoid caffeine β Some people find cutting it out beforehand helps with tenderness
- Take a pain reliever β Ask your doctor if it's OK to take acetaminophen or ibuprofen before or after
- Dress comfortably β A two-piece outfit makes things easier and less stressful
- Talk to the technologist β Let them know your breasts are sore; they may be able to adjust positioning or apply compression more slowly
- Breathe deeply β Counting slowly while compression happens can really help
- Ask about cushions β Some facilities have padding for the machine, so it's worth calling ahead Remember, the compression only lasts about 10β15 seconds per image β it's over before you know it! πͺ After your mammogram, if soreness continues beyond a few days or gets worse, it's worth checking in with your care team.
