Ask your PCP about running a nutrition panel blood test, to see the different areas you could consider supplementation. Some are expensive, and if not needed your body will just pass it along- though even too much of a good thing can be bad as it can throw other numbers out of whack. I run everything I am considering through my PCP.

I took 20,000 iu for the first year then 10,000 after my vitamin D level went from 30% to 100%. Remember to take with vitamin K2. You can pay online to take vitamin test at Walgreens labcorp it's around $59 :)

Taking too much vitamin D can be toxic so check with your doctor before you start taking any kind of supplements. It's really common for breast cancer patients to have low levels of vitamin D. If you are on blood thinners you need to be mindful of taking vitamin K supplements and vitamin K consumption with what you eat because vitamin K can increase the effects of blood thinning medications and make your blood too thin to clot properly.

What is the highest safe dose of Vitamin D3 to support bone health when living with breast cancer?

There isn't a one-size-fits-all answer here, and that's actually really important. The right dose depends on your current vitamin D levels, which can be checked with a simple blood test at your next appointment. Here's what's worth knowing about Vitamin D3 and bone health with breast cancer:

- Higher blood levels of vitamin D may support better outcomes during breast cancer treatment
- Vitamin D helps bones absorb calcium, keeping them strong
- Taking too much can cause serious side effects, including:
- Nausea and vomiting
- Muscle weakness
- Confusion and pain
- Dehydration
- Kidney stones
- Vitamin D can also interact with certain medications

The safest step is to ask your doctor to test your vitamin D levels first. They can then recommend the right dose specifically for you — not too little, not too much. Don't start any supplement plan before having that conversation.
