Had my biopsy

I had my biopsy today. The nurse and doctor were both calm and informative.
The lump is on my left breast. He said that there is also some very small growths. I will be sent for an MRI so he can see what’s going on there. He took three samples from the main lump.
The one thing he did mention is so far the lymph nodes are clear.

Hi Nancy......that's good news about the lymph nodes. It's pretty common to have a MRI after having a biopsy. It's offers a different kind of view of what's happening with your breast tissue and can pick up things that the mammogram, ultrasound, and CAT scans don't see so it's a good thing your doctor has already ordered the test for you. It's great that your medical team was calm and informative, and that your lymph nodes appear clear so far. After your biopsy, it's normal to experience some side effects like bruising, swelling, or bleeding at the biopsy site. These typically resolve within a few days.

Here's what you can do to care for yourself:

- Avoid lifting anything heavier than 5 pounds for a day or two
- Skip strenuous activities like running or jogging during this rest period
- Use an ice pack if recommended to help reduce swelling
- Take over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen (Tylenol) if you experience discomfort
- Follow your doctor's specific instructions for caring for your biopsy site

You may notice a lump or feel that the existing lump seems larger due to bruising and swelling from the procedure. This usually goes away within about a week.

Your biopsy samples will be examined by a pathologist, and you should receive results within a few days to 72 hours. The MRI will help your doctor get a clearer picture of the small growths he mentioned.

If you experience persistent swelling, tenderness, or bleeding for more than a week, or if you have any concerns about your biopsy site, contact your healthcare provider.
