First, take a breath. Getting called back after a mammogram doesn't automatically mean cancer has spread. Callbacks happen for many reasons:
- They need a closer look at something
- Additional imaging from another angle is needed
- There's nothing from previous scans to compare it to
- They want to rule out normal breast Show Full Answer
Lee, I had the same thing happen to me. Went for an ultrasound, then 2 biopsies. Talk about rattling the cage! Turned out to be cysts and fibrous tissue...no cancer thank God. Just that darn emotional roller-coaster again. Hang in there! I pray that your outcome is as relieving to you as mine was to me! Many hugs!!!π₯°π₯°
Good Lee5. Please don't stress yourself out. I got a call like this 3 years ago. I did had to do another biopsy and fortunately it was nothing. After that I am doing well. From now on when I go for a mammogram the doctor put in my records there always be mandatory, an ultrasound done. Take care and I pray ππππ that everything will be π. Stay positive.
Thank you so much. Lee
@A MyBCTeam Member It's hard not to have your mind jump to the dark side with a call back. Our center had a scenario not listed above- and actually lost their accreditation over it! Apparently, there were scans done that weren't perfect-but were very close, so the radiologists felt there was no reason to call those patients back.We all know how uncomfortable those mammos are- if you shift just the tiniest bit, or your breathing isn't spot on- the image is affected. Well, this was picked up when the accreditation team were doing their reviews to renew the center's accreditation! Wow- what a mess!! All staff had to do retraining, those particular patients were sent to another center for another mammo (no charge to them). Certified letters were sent to EVERY patient that had been in for a mammo since the last accreditation, and were offered an updated mammo from another center (again, no charge), all upcoming appts (including mine) were cancelled for 6 months, (ended up being closer to a year!). Of all the patients with less than perfect scans, the updated scans showed no issues- but lesson learned. Now, they (and probably every other center that read about it!) will err on the side of caution and have additional images taken.
I had to have additional images taken- (knew something was up by the change in the tech's demeanor), turns out the non-cancer side had developed cysts. They don't bother me, so they can stay put.
I will be keeping you in prayers that your call back is for a simple, non-cancer, situation. Please keep us posted! Do you have an appt yet? Hugs!
