What could be causing dull ache and lumps in your upper outer breast along with anxiety?

It's understandable to feel anxious when you notice lumps and discomfort in your breast. The good news is that most breast lumps are benign (noncancerous), with more than 80 percent turning out to be harmless.

The upper outer portion of the breast is actually a common location for various types of lumps. Your symptoms could be related to several benign conditions:

* Cysts - fluid-filled sacs that can feel round and smooth, and may become more tender before your menstrual period
* Fibroadenomas - painless, smooth, rubbery lumps that can move freely
* Scar tissue - if you've had previous breast surgery or treatment
* Normal breast tissue changes - breasts naturally have fibrous and lumpy areas that can change with hormonal fluctuations

The dull ache you're experiencing could be related to fascial pain (the layer over the muscle), which some members describe as tightness or discomfort after treatment.

However, it's impossible to determine whether a lump is cancerous just by how it feels. The most important step is to contact your doctor as soon as possible to have these lumps evaluated. They can perform imaging tests or other examinations to determine what's causing your symptoms.

Try not to let anxiety delay getting checked - early detection is key, and most likely you'll find reassurance that these lumps are benign.
