Hi Corinne, I was able to get financial assistance after my mastectomy from a local cancer foundation & the hospital for my surgery bills. Definitely ask you hospital/Dr office if they offer financial assistance or payment plan. It’s never hurts to ask. Good luck. 😊

Can you qualify for financial assistance after a double mastectomy when no other treatment is involved?

Yes, financial assistance may still be available even if you're only having surgery without additional treatments like chemotherapy or radiation. Several organizations provide help specifically for breast cancer-related medical expenses, including surgery costs.

Here are some resources that may help:

* The Susan G. Komen Foundation offers a Treatment Assistance Program for women currently in breast cancer treatment, which includes surgery
* CancerCare's Co-Payment Assistance Foundation helps cover copayments for cancer care procedures
* The American Life Fund provides financial assistance to women with gynecologic cancers
* Hospital or clinic social workers can connect you with additional assistance programs (you can also call CancerCare at (Phone number can only be seen by the question and answer creators) to locate an oncology social worker)

Beyond direct medical costs, you might also need help with expenses related to your surgery recovery, such as transportation, lodging, childcare, or mortgage assistance. The American Cancer Society maintains information about these nonmedical support resources.

If you're planning reconstruction surgery alongside your mastectomy, some breast cancer support and awareness organizations offer grants specifically to help with those costs as well.

It's worth reaching out to these organizations to check your specific eligibility, as many have programs designed to support people through surgical procedures.
