Recommended to do same day,because is only one time pain

I waited a year after my double mastectomy to get fully recovered from chemo and Keytruda and their side effects. The expander surgery was painful initially so I’m glad I waited. Replacement in 3 weeks so almost over!

I have had 2 different plastic reconstructive surgeons say if you are having radiation and plan to reconstruct using implants that you need to have the expander implants installed and filled to the size you need or permanent implants installed prior to having radiation. This is to be sure the breast skin is stretched out enough to accomodate the implants. During and after radiation your skin texture can change in different ways including scarring and loss of elasticity so if you don't already have expander or permanent implants installed before radiation and your skin is damaged and unable to stretch you may not be able to use implants for reconstruction. In that case if your skin won't stretch you may need to do a flap surgery that reconstructs your breasts using fat and/or muscle from your belly or back like DIEP surgery or latissimus dorsi surgery. If you plan to have implants used for reconstruction and you're having surgery prior to radiation then it makes the most sense to have the expander or permanent implants installed during your mastectomy surgery because you don't want to undergo any more surgeries and healing time than absolutely necessary.

Give yourself time to heal love. Be absolutely SURE you want reconstructive surgery. I have mixed feelings about it. My friend had double mastect and had reconstructive surgery. She was in a vast amount of pain for months and months
