I had double mastectomy and expanders too. I went home same day with 4 drains. MD felt there was no need to stay over and I agreed.

I had a double mastectomy and went home same day but everyone is different. Depends on your pain, vitals and how comfortable you are.

How long you stay in the hospital depends on what type of reconstructive surgery you are having. If you are having expanders installed you will most likely spend one, maybe two, nights in the hospital. If you are having a more complex surgery such as DIEP reconstruction you can expect to stay in the hospital for at least 3-5 nights.

I had a double mastectomy with tissue expanders placed at the same time. I got to my room from recovery about 900 pm. I stayed that night and was released before noon the following day. They had me up walking the hallway at 3:00 am!!
