I met with Hospice admission nurse today who ordered me oxygen. I asked how to use it and she said just call the office and they'd walk me through it. Don't I need to be tested for the right air flow for me? I probably won't need it and my hospice nurse is supposed to be coming either tomorrow or Wednesday so can ask her. Just wondering for those that use home oxygen all the time, it is hard to get used to do it properly?

Whoever the company is that brings your oxygen to your home. Should tell you everything you need to know. Look at the response that the AI answer is in your first post. There should be a respiratory therapist with the company that is delivering your oxygen to tell you everything you need to know from how to use it what the safety issues are with it and what you need to be aware of when and where to call the doctor if you are having issues, you should also ask them for a direct number after hours to get a hold of somebody if you have issues or problems with the oxygen set up that they leave in your home I am a registered nurse and have done Home Care for a long time over 15 years and the people that deliver the oxygen to your home should tell you everything you need to know before they leave and you should also be able to demonstrate back to them that you understand everything they’ve told you if not get their phone number which should also be attached to the equipment they put into your home for the oxygen delivery system so that if you have an issue, you can call them right away. They should have somebody on call 24 seven to answer any questions or bring you new equipment if there is a problem, I will keep you in my prayers.
@A MyBCTeam Member - I never had oxygen before. The admissions nurse ordered it today & said it would be here tomorrow. Did your nurse come the same day you became a hospice patient or did you have to wait a day or two? I’m praying the hospice nurse comes tomorrow🙏

Sorry to hear they are raising your stress level about Oxygen.
I agree with Carol. All should be set right with delivery and set up. Those folks should teach you what you need to know, very simple and easy. You need to get the instructions! And know who to call with questions and they should provide that too.

You do need the number . A year ago in the hospital they told me 3 and this past July they had me on 2 when I was in there . Are you getting an oxygen cylinder or oxygen concentrator? The person bringing it in should be able to help you and if you can’t get an answer as to the number to keep it at look at your recent hospitalization and look on mychart for how much they were giving you when you were there . I haven’t used the cylinder yet and the concentrator is easy to use . Just plug it in, put the nasal cannula on and that’s it .
