To be honest it takes about a month to heal and finally accept that part of you is gone. To me it was very scary. I didn't even want to look but after each fill, I felt better. Now that I have the implants, I appreciate that I was giving the option to have breasts again. A little bonus is no more back and shoulder problems (I was a DD). It has become a very normal thing to me. Prayers and hugs coming your way :)

Like @A MyBCTeam Member, I had expanders. They were placed during the double mastectomy. They were uncomfortable especially at night. Implants were put in 8/2022 and my exchange was 3/2023. The implants felt so much better and I rarely even think about them now. I was also a DD, so for me, I have better posture and my shoulder bra divots are almost gone. I think I actually look better in clothes now than I did with the DD's. When I came home from the double mastectomy surgery, I did not look at myself for about a week or so, A friend changed my bandages. When I did look, it was not the trauma that I anticipated. My plastic surgeon did a great job with the scars. After the surgery, I wore loose flowy wraps, open (unbuttoned) shirts over a tshirt, and cardigan type sweaters. Few people even knew I had surgery. Not even my middle school students who would have had no qualms on saying "hey Ms Barber, where's your boobs?" LOL. Once the fills were complete, and I had some boobs again, I went back to my normal clothes. Prayers for you.

It's been a little over a year for me. I still find it difficult, but wear prosthetics in my bras so I'm not reminded daily every time I look at myself. I know having them removed wasn't a choice and will help me.
