Here are key ways to prepare for your double mastectomy:

• Pack comfortable, easy-to-wear clothing like button-up shirts and zip-up sweatshirts since arm movement will be limited
• Understand your surgical site care and arm movement restrictions beforehand
• Plan for wound dressing changes and drain management
• Arrange help for bathing and showering
• Prepare for limited activities, especially heavy lifting
• Schedule follow-up appointments in advance It's also important to:

• Review medication schedules with your caregivers
• Set up a home care plan to support healing
• Consider getting supplies needed for recovery ahead of time
• Plan for healthy activities like walking during recovery
• Prepare mentally and emotionally, as many people experience anxiety and depression after surgery
• Discuss reconstruction options with your surgeon if you're considering immediate reconstruction, as this affects recovery time

Remember that surgery under general anesthesia typically takes 2-3 hours, and you'll be monitored in recovery before moving to a hospital room.

Hi mv1209
You are very brave & you will do great!
I found that having extra thin pillows for under the arms is very beneficial.
That was what helped me the most with my right breast mastectomy in August.
I had ZERO pain after the surgery which was a huge blessing. 🌷🩷🌸
Eat whatever you feel you want/need bc you are worth it & it helps to be good to yourself.
Much Love
Deborah & my lil doggie Anakin 🥰♥️🐕🌹
