Has anyone had IDC-L? I can't find much in the literature about it.

Cathy, were you diagnosed with cancer in both the duct and the lobe? That is often referred to as IDC/L or MDLC (mixed ductal and lobular cancer). IDC is more common than ILC, and having both in the same tumor can happen. Keeping you in prayers as you navigate through all the info coming at you! Hugs!

Good morning. I was diagnosed with both ductal and lobular breast cancer in my left breast in April 2024. It was stage 3a since it was large and in my lymph nodes. I also found that I could not find a lot of info about this "mixed" type of cancer. I was triple positive and did neoadjuvent TCHP for 4 months, then a mastectomy, radiation, 1 full year of Herceptin and now scheduled for my reconstruction in September. I had a complete pathological response and no cancer was found during my surgery!

IDC (Invasive Ductal Carcinoma) starts in the milk ducts of the breast, while ILC (Invasive Lobular Carcinoma) begins in the lobules, which are the milk-producing glands. The main differences between these types include:

• IDC typically presents with a noticeable lump in the breast
• IDC tends to spread to the liver, bones, and brain
• IDC is usually easier to detect on mammograms than ILC Common symptoms of IDC include:

• A lump in the breast or armpit
• Breast swelling
• Skin changes (discoloration, thickening, rash, or dimpling)
• Inverted nipple
• Nipple discharge
• Breast or nipple pain

Some people may not experience any symptoms and only discover the cancer through routine mammogram screening. Treatment options for IDC may include surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. Radiation treatments typically target the breast, underarm, collarbone, or chest areas. Chemotherapy may be given either before surgery to shrink tumors or after surgery to prevent cancer recurrence.
