Many MyBCTeam members have experienced skin changes after mastectomy. Some helpful tips for caring for delicate post-surgery skin include:

- Gentle massage with pure coconut oil to moisturize and improve skin health
- Being extra careful to protect the thin skin area from injury
- Following all post-surgery care instructions from your surgical team If you notice any concerning signs like:
- Redness or swelling
- Skin discoloration
- Open wounds
- Tenderness
- Fever

Contact your doctor right away, as these could indicate complications requiring medical attention. They can evaluate if the thin skin needs additional treatment or special care instructions. During recovery, it's important to:
- Know your physical activity limits
- Ask for help with daily tasks if needed
- Use mastectomy pillows to protect surgical sites
- Wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothing and bras that support without squeezing

Remember that healing takes time and everyone's recovery process is different.
