My last round of chemo is 6/5 and I start radiation 6/26. My port is on the opposite side that my cancer was on. Not sure if it matters how soon to get it out or not. That’s just another procedure to add to my time and heal from. 🤷♀️
Maybe they are waiting to see how uncomfortable you are with radiation?
I did not do radiation, so had chemo and an infused targeted therapy. When the last one was done, we scheduled more labs, so we left the port in until those showed things were within normal range. Then it could come out, but I postponed the removal for a few weeks so I could get it done during spring break from school so I did not lose any more sick leave.
The timing of port removal is a personal choice, and many people choose to keep their ports in for an extended period after completing chemotherapy. The port can remain safely in place for years after treatment, which can be helpful for follow-up blood testing or in case additional treatments are needed.

I had mine removed asap as soon as my chemo was done out it came
I had my port removed before radiation because it was on the same side. It was removed in the doctor’s office with local anesthetic and not bad at all. Sure wasn’t as bad as when it was put in. 😊
