@A MyBCTeam Member: just so you know, I did the bone infusions every 6 months - only took 15 minutes and no issues. They actually helped increase my bone density. Just letting you know in case you do end up needing to do them.
Just remember that not everyone has side effects on AI's - and even if you do, they can always adjust dosage or switch you to a different AI (some women find they do better on one over another for whatever reason). Wishing you all the best! 🩷
You're now the 2nd person who told me that. A friend of my sister's just ended 5 years on Anastrazole and also said she had no side effects. According to my oncologist, the most common side effects she's noted are hot flashes, joint pain and decrease in bone density. She mentioned that if my bone density test showed a decrease, then I could get infusions every 6 months (not something I would want to do). I'm glad you had no side effects - it gives me hope.
I'll be starting mid April after return from a trip. Dr. said I could take one every other day for a month and than start daily .
Not having side effects from the AI's seems pretty miraculous to me. I can see no side effects for a year but if you stayed on them for 5 years with no issues, that is miraculous.
My side effects on Anastrozole started in the 5th month with overall leg stiffness which turned to aches and then pain by the 7th month. I stopped taking it for a month, went back on it and pain never got too bad from 9th to 12th month. It stopped working so my doctor took me off it. I didn't take it 13th, 14 or 15th months and leg stiffness and pain went away. Then radiologist recommended I restart it so for the last 2 months I have been back on it. Pain in legs is bad, waves of hot flashes, hip pain, possibly causing sleeping issues.
I stopped taking it yesterday.
Every woman responds differently, and I always recommend women to at least try it . There is always the chance of side effects being mild and they are reversible when you stop them.
@A MyBCTeam Member I am sorry you have this again. I believe if recurrence happens, it doesn't matter if treatment is 2 years, 5 yrs or 10 yrs. Cancer cells go dormant and can stay dormant for years while treatment is proceeding escaping detection. Then they return. Our immune systems can still kill off these cancer cells but if not then cancer returns. It does seem when it recurs it is MBC.
this is one reason I am against mastectomy because mastectomy doesn't guarantee cancer is not going to come back. 🥰
Good morning Sue10,
I started Radiation Treatments 2-5-25 the Feast of St. Agatha finished 3-4-25 Fat Tuesday, And Wednesday 3-5 begins Lent!
It was a month of healing. All swelling and 95% of color has returned. Im still getting some stinging pains that take me by surprise but I'm just offering it all up during this Lent.
Thank you for your advise.
Starting meds every other day is a great idea too.
God bless us all on this beautiful day!!! 🙏🧔♂️🕯🤴✝️🕊🔥♥️👸📿🌹
