Thank you the responses are really helping me be clear. It’s 5% I read and it seemed such a low number if I was going to be harmed by it. But maybe I’m crazy and should grab every percent I can.
So, really look at your percentages of reoccurrence when deciding to do radiation. It cut my risk in half. I did the radiation. They also want me on blockers, I am refusing them. I will not deal with any more symptoms or side effects than I've already experienced. That decision may change in the future but right now I need stability.
Radiation was a breeze. Nothing was different for the first week or so. Then my breast started having all sorts of sensations and pain. The treatment itself is quick, painless, and actually restful for a few moments. I started having burning on the inside, had to keep an ice pack on it for a couple days, then they gave my a prescription cream and that took it away. By end of second week, my breast area was red and itchy. By week 3 it was red, itchy, and a rash all up my chest formed. My nipple became the most irritated. Then, it was done. I am almost all healed up and it's been 2 weeks since my last treatment. Still itchy but getting better daily!

At 66, doing everything that you can at this age is very doable.
You will be able to get through all procedures and recuperate and start exercising.
As one gets older, these steps are harder…Can still be done.
Hard decisions all the time. With a 5% of recurrence, maybe its not worth it. But then there is the chance of being the one that does but even women who do nothing can remain cancer free for a number of years. Another risk to take. If you are going to be on a hormone blocker, then I would think that is enough. The question you need to ask yourself is ' If I don't get radiation, will I be able to go through this again 5 yrs from now'? But then again, whether women mastectomies, chemo, radiation, take a ton of supplements or go on hormone therapy, recurrence can still happen. Its not hard to remain cancer free for quite a few years no matter what we do.
Great answer. I read the 5% on here and other sights. I’m going to have the radiation because I like you want to try everything to stay healthy.
