I had double mastectomies and reconstruction the same day. No infection or lymphoma. 8 month later the only scars left are very faint lines. Hopefully by the end of this summer, depending on further treatment they’ll be swapped out for the permanent ones. Good luck on your upcoming surgery.

Where I work, it is done in 2 surgeries, I make sure the blood vessels are still supplying enough blood flow to the area. If there is not adequate blood flow, the tissue can die.

I had a flat closure double mastectomy with no intention of reconstruction. A month after surgery I had to go back to the OR because I developed a Seroma (fluid buildup) on one side. I would suspect this would have been worse had I had reconstruction at the same time. It may not seem so right now but it could be a blessing so that you can heal quicker and prevent any possible complications. Sending you hugs! 🩷

I actually think 2 separate surgeries is the best way. After surgery there is a risk of infection, doing reconstruction afterwards gives you time to heal.

I had my mastectomy in May 2024 and will have my expanders placed next week. I was not happy with that but I’m so happy with my choice of my Dr. did they state why they are waiting? I was told also that doing both does raise the rate of infection and necrosis
