I had lumpectomy and Sentinel node removal. The sentinel node incision bothered me more than the lumpectomy incision and it appeared it was made by a thicker instrument. I felt achy in the area for weeks where I had no ache or pain at the lumpectomy site.
My node scar area was very tender for months. The scars for the double mastectomy healed and faded MUCH faster than the node scars. Two years out from surgery and the node scar is no longer tender and has faded some, but still very visible.
My node scar healed quicker than the mastectomy however ,I had pain for awhile in the area due to cording.
Recovery from a sentinel lymph node biopsy can vary, but here are some general points:
- Initial Healing: The small incision (about half an inch) typically starts to heal within a few weeks
- Scarring: Scars may take several months to fade. It's common to experience some numbness at the incision site
