I had a lumpectomy, sentinel node biopsy and oncoplastic surgery on only the right side. It was about 6 weeks for a reasonable recovery. There's scars for sure, hoping they will fade. I'm going through radiation right now and then another surgery so both are symmetrical

Yes, I had sentinel node biopsy, and the lumpectomy. This was in June 2015, and I am still working through some scar tissue to get back full range of motion. For the first several months I was swollen - my breast seems enlarged, despite the lumpectomy. It's down to its original size now - just the scar tissue to manage.

I feel the same way,Kathyanne! It breaks my heart to hear what others are going through. I lost my daughter to breast cancer and I saw how much she suffered!

Thanks BobbiDean, you have been through a lot, I so understand it is not a road we would choose but must accept. Most people say I am lucky to have this diagnosis and I truly am, many people have it much worse.

Hi Kathyanne, I appreciate your response. I will probably start radiation after I heal. I see my oncologist the end of April to discuss treatment options. I looked at your diagnosis and it's similar to mine. I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy on 12/4/15. I ended up with cellulitis and an allergic reaction to chlora prep. My recovery took longer so I didn't find out until February after a follow up mammogram that my cancer was missed! My surgeon didn't do the wire loc to indentify the clip that was placed when I had the original Sterotactic biopsy, so he couldn't find the clip and took extra tissue in hopes that he removed the cancer and clear margins. I was devastated to find out I had to go through surgery again! I decided to see a highly recommended breast cancer surgeon at Georgetown University Hospital to get a second opinion. She had me see the reconstruction plastic surgeon the same day and he explained that I was a candidate for oncoplasty and reduction mammaplasty as part of breast conservation therapy. I had the lumpectomy again along with breast reconstruction on both breast, 3/16/16.The two surgeons worked as a team. It was a very long day but I was glad they could do both surgeries one right after the other. Everything went well until 2 days later. I had an allergic reaction to the adhesive that was used as extra protection for all the incisions underneath my breast. They used steri strips on the nipple. I also have cellulitis again and another rash below my breast. I've been on two antibiotics and steroid cream for the rash. Everything is settling down but I'm still very uncomfortable, especially in the morning and when I move around. I'm starting to get my energy back and hoping I never need surgery again!
