Below is a link to discharge instructions for getting/removing port. I had mine removed on a Friday, and drove myself to around that Monday and beyond. I just took my little bag with dressings, tylenol, and an ice pack to put in the freezer, just in case. I also made sure I had a little pillow to place under the cross body seat belt strap to avoid pressure on the site.

Agree with Notagain77. I have had a port since July 23 and don’t have any special things to do but each situation can be different.

I did not have a port but you should check with your oncologist with these questions to be sure you have the right answer!

I had to get my port removed after my second chemo because of severe infection. I was put under general anesthesia but it was a quick and easy procedure. The surgeon used only 3 stitches to close it up and I get them out on Tuesday. I now have a midline in my left arm since a picc line didn’t work. The oncologist said they could use it for my remaining chemotherapy infusions. I have to say I am so glad it’s out.

For me, the glue and the steristrips did not fall off until 3 weeks later.. hope they do better job with the incisions at the removal..
I’m supposed to get my port out in a month or so.. think if it’s not regularly used, it needs to be flushed every 6 weeks so I think it’ll be out before 6 weeks. Waiting for a call from them with the date..
