My oncologist has me doing 6 chemo infusions (TCH) every 3 weeks. My second one is next week. Once the 6 are completed, I will go back to the surgeon to remove the tumor and have Herceptin infusions after every 3 weeks for 1 year. I’m just really concerned about not having the tumor removed prior to 4 months of chemo.
They did not remove my tumor until after I went through chemo and radiation. By the time I had surgery, the tumor was pretty much nothing but powdery bits and pieces. It had only moved into one lymph node, but the Dr. took out about 20 of them. I had a lumpectomy and am now on Exemestane and doing well.
Yes, doing the chemo first, hopefully achieves two things- 1- they will be able to tell if the drugs are working, and 2- since you are getting the lumpectomy, the smaller the tumor is, the less tissue they will have to remove. Last month marked 4 years out of active treatment for me- so far, so good! Hugs!
I hear from here that chemo before surgery is pretty much the norm, the more they shrink the tumor the better. 🥰
yes I did 2 times and Radiation and came the cancer I that ever a double Mastectomy
