The first time I had breast cancer in 2017 I was stage 1 and had a double mastectomy, but didnโt need chemo or radiation because the cancer was not aggressive or quick growing. When the breast cancer returned late last year it was a completely new and different cancer from the 1st one and very aggressive. It was stage 3c because 16 of the 18 lymph nodes removed from my chest and armpit were cancerous. I ended up having 3 surgeries, 8 sessions of chemo, and 20 sessions of radiation. Both times my breast cancer was estrogen and progesterone positive and HER2 negative. My doctor says I have to be on an AI for the rest of my life and be on a CDK inhibitor for 3 years.
No chemo for me. Er+ Her2- Onco was 24. On letrozole and will do radiation. Mine was stage 2 but not in the lymph node. I had clear margins.
There are plenty of women who donโt need it. Read my story. Depending on your cancer type and stage etc you might have options. And yes, chemo can be horror. But not for everyone. Research and advocate for yourself.
I had invasive ducal carcinoma EP positive and her2 negative, grade 2 stage1 i end up during chemotherapy because my oncotype was high 27. But a lot of patients do not have to do chemo
Most invasive breast cancers do not need chemo.
