I’m exploring a surgical option for a lumpectomy and reduction (with matching reduction to other breast)
I have IDC tumor 1.8cm with a wider area of DCIS up to 7cm. The lumpectomy would remove 40- 50% of my breast (large C cup) so I would end up A/B cup but I have a skinny build and am ok with being smaller. It’s an oncoplastic procedure and because of the amount removed, the other breast would be reduced as week
The risk is getting clear margins & radiation, the benefit is keeping my own… read more
I did. I was DDD+, and always wanted a breast reduction. Because I am TNBC, I did chemo first. 1 cm, no lymph node involvement. I was very lucky, and got complete pathological response, no cancer was left after chemo. Normally, my surgeon would take the clip, and the area around it. Because I was doing a reduction on the other side, she took half the breast, around the clip. When she was done, the plastic surgeon did reconstruction to match the reduced side. So happy with the results!
My plastic surgeon encouraged me to wait on the matching reduction on the other side. There was so much we didn’t know : would they get favorable margins, etc. I had all nodes removed-36 which made my recovery far more difficult than I anticipated. I was so glad that I wasn’t also working to heal on my right side. I can get the reduction anytime I choose, but for now I am happy with 2 different sized boobs. I don’t want to go through it again or to have the surgery fake feeling under my breast. I wear a a very supportive bra for my nodes and it fits my girls in with no notice of the difference in size. I do wish my natural breast was more perky, but I think I going to accept and love myself just the way I am!
